Classic Blackjack Review
Classic Blackjack is just one of a suite of Blackjack games from the mighty Microgaming, and found at many of the best online casinos. It’s been part of Microgaming’s download casino software for some time, but also exists in an Instant Play Flash version too, which is undoubtedly a more modern and convenient way to play.
Classic Blackjack seats you at a very attractive virtual table, and keeps things nice and simple with just one hand to play and single standard deck of playing cards in the game’s ‘shoe’. This is shuffled before each game, so card-counting isn’t going to get you very far we might add! The Dealer Rule is to stand on all 17s or above and Blackjack is paid at the traditional odds of 3 to 2.
Additional rules for Classic Blackjack are as follows:
Split is available if your initial deal comprises two cards of the same denomination, but can only be done once per game.
Doubling down on your bet is also allowed if your initial hand has a hard value (i.e. it does not include an Ace) of 9, 10 or 11 only. This rule is only applicable to your initial two cards, and cannot be used if you’ve split that hand.
Insurance is available if the Dealer’s upcard is an Ace. This optional side bet will cost you half your original stake and pays 2 to 1 if the Dealer reveals a Blackjack on their turn. This option can be taken for each hand you play per game, so you can take out Insurance bets on either or both hands resulting from a split.
Surrender is not available at any stage of the game to bail out a weak hand.
Table limits for Classic Blackjack provide plenty of flexibility for players with a minimum stake of £1 and a maximum of £200 per hand if you’ve got deeper pockets.
Playing Classic Blackjack is a joy as the presentation is very authentic with smooth animation and suitable audio effects to really put you ‘in the zone’. User controls are easy to understand, with sensible options to allow you to enjoy the game with the minimum of distraction.
What really makes Microgaming’s Classic Blackjack so attractive though is that its rule set means this game can offer skilful players a tantalisingly low house edge – the advertised RTP figure is 99.87% meaning a house edge of 0.13% is the target for optimal play. That’s a very tempting target for any online casino player, and means this Blackjack should be high on your list of games to play if your favourite online casino offers it.
