High Limit Blackjack Review

High Limit Blackjack

You may well guess from its name that Microgaming’s Blackjack High Limit is an online Blackjack for those of you with slightly deeper pockets, looking for a virtual table that will let you indulge rather richer stakes than usual. Whereas the usual table limits on Microgaming’s online Blackjack games lives between £1 and £200 per hand, the action on High Limit begins at £20 and tops out at a rather extravagant £1000 per hand. If you didn’t blink at that, then read on . . .

Blackjack High Limit is built upon Microgaming’s European Blackjack format with a slight cosmetic change to the table to change the green baize to a sexy crimson hue. One hand may be played per game, although for some curious reason this is off-centre from the central player position, being dealt to the second player position from the left. This initially gave us the impression this Blackjack High Limit might offer multiple hands (for players who’ve got pockets deeper than the Marianas Trench), but it seems this is just a quirk of this resolutely single-hand game.
Cosmetic and table limit differences aside, High Limit’s games are dealt from a two-deck shoe of standard playing cards with a Dealer Rule of ‘stand on all 17’ and Blackjack paying 3 to 2. The other rules, consistent with European Blackjack, are:

Splitting the initial hand is allowed if the two cards are of the same rank, but no further splits are allowed beyond that.

Doubling is allowed on any initial hand with a hard count of 9,10 or 11. The doubled hand will receive one further hand after which it will automatically stand. Doubling is not allowed on a split hand.

Insurance is possible as a side bet should the Dealer’s upcard be an Ace. This optional side bet requires a bet of exactly half the player’s original stake, and will pay out at 2 to 1 in the event that the Dealer ends up revealing Blackjack on their turn.

Surrender is not allowable under the rules of Blackjack High Limit.

With the same rule set as European Blackjack it will come as no surprise that High Limit shares the same (desirably) low house edge of 0.40% (RTP 99.60%) for perfect play.

Verdict

Essentially your decision to play Microgaming’s Blackjack High Limit game will come down to whether you feel disgruntled with the upper limit of £200 per hand on its European Blackjack game, or routinely play bets between £20 and £200 but prefer red over green baize! If that sounds flippant, we apologise however it does probably summarise whether this online Blackjack will honestly offer the differences that might warrant your wagering interest.
