Single Deck Blackjack Review

Single Deck Blackjack

Single Deck Blackjack is, as its name clearly implies, an online Blackjack game that’s dealt from just a single standard deck of playing cards. There are a handful of single deck games available at online casinos, but this particular version is from the extremely talented developer NetEnt. NetEnt has built a phenomenal reputation for its online slot games, but how does its table gaming stack up? ‘Very well’ is the short answer, but let’s get more into the detail here . . .

First things first, Single Deck Blackjack is a very nicely presented game, with players able to play a single hand per game with simple user controls to manage betting and player decisions. There is a slightly cheesy lounge-core jazz soundtrack to proceedings, but also a useful mute button to show the band the door if it gets too grating (we stood about a minute before our twitching fingers raced to click the button). Anyway, table limits of between £1 and £40 gives a reasonable range of staking options and you’ll find no funny business with the Blackjack pays or Dealer Rule. The former pays 3 to 2 and the latter is to stand on hard 17 (or conversely hit on soft 17 as it’s shown on the table layout).

Single Deck Blackjack’s other important rules are:

Splitting is allowed once on the first two cards dealt to the player if they have the same value. Those split hands can be played with multiple hits as strategically needed with the exception of a split of two Aces which can only receive one additional card after the split.

Doubling down is possible on any initial deal with a hard count of 10 or 11, with one extra card dealt to that hand before it must automatically stand.

Insurance is possible whenever the Dealer’s upcard is an Ace. This follows the common rule that the side bet requires a stake of half the original stake and will pay at 2 to 1 if the Dealer’s hand is ultimately revealed to be Blackjack.

Even Money – this is a less commonly encountered option that is offered if you are dealt a Blackjack and the Dealer’s upcard is an Ace. Should you take this gamble you’ll win the game and be paid at 1 to 1 straight away, as opposed to playing on to determine if you’ll win at 3 to 2 or experience a push bet if the Dealer ties with Blackjack too.

Surrender is not available in any form on Single Deck Blackjack.

We’re not convinced of the strategic usefulness of the Even Money bet on this Blackjack game, but notwithstanding that reservation the ultimate combination of rules on this table gives a pretty attractive house edge of 0.41% to aim for (RTP 99.59%).

Verdict

We really enjoyed the overall look and feel of this Blackjack game, with it also scoring highly for its ease of use on mobile devices too. As mentioned above, NetEnt may be more well known for its online slots, but on the strength of its Single Deck Blackjack it’s definitely worth seeking out its table games at the best online casinos.
