Load NetEnts’ European Roulette and you find yourself before a lovely, moodily lit table with virtual baize in the traditional green. The instant impression is of arriving to play through the night in a proper, private club. Sadly NetEnt has slightly tarnished that impression with some frankly god-awful background music, and even with five options for what’s playing in the settings menu, muting this nonsense is a priority for us. Having dealt with that sonic aberration, the proper business of betting comes into focus and NetEnt has done its usual excellent job with the user interface to make this generally intuitive, easy and fun.
Being a European variant, we were also happy to see the provision of the classic racetrack layout – which can be toggled on and off screen – to facilitate both neighbour and a quartet of traditional call bets. Further niceties include a facility to store your own personalised ‘favourite’ bet selections, in addition to a results history display that includes dynamic statistics of the four ‘hottest’ and four ‘coldest’ numbers if such data influences your betting judgements.
Initiate a spin and you’ll see a superb animation of that event, which adds considerably to the feel of playing this famous table game for real. Speed freaks do, however, have a ‘Qick spin’ option in the settings console if cutting to the chase of the winning number in each game is more important than watching a beautiful, realistic enactment of the ball getting to that conclusion. Speaking of realism, perhaps NetEnt could have given the Dealer a European accent, rather than an American one, but that’s a minor detail that doesn’t materially detract from the overall, excellent experience you’ll enjoy with this game.
Verdict
Aside from our personal distaste for the music choices in this game, we can find little else to criticize about NetEnt’s European Roulette. Quite the opposite in fact. This is a very polished performer that gives Live Dealer tables a serious run for their money when it comes to delivering a truly immersive experience of playing this casino classic.
